CASH AWARDS TO HELP EMPOWER WOMEN AND CHANGE THE WORLD Six Canadian Initiatives Honoured with $5,000 Avon Hello Tomorrow Fund Awards

Montreal, Quebec, October 26, 2007 – As winners of the Avon Hello Tomorrow Fund, six Canadian breast cancer initiatives are one step closer to fulfilling their dreams of creating a better tomorrow for their communities. The Hello Tomorrow Fund, a $5,000 cash award program from Avon Canada, Inc. was created to support individuals in their work to empower women. The winners were selected from over 1000 applications submitted from across the country. Entries were required to present unique and achievable objectives to empower women or girls and ultimately improve society through breast cancer community service, awareness, or outreach programs.

Amy Baker from Saint John, New Brunswick won for an “In Her Shoes” project that will serve as a tribute to her mentor Mildred and raise funds for breast cancer research.

Kimberley Dick from Hamilton, Ontario won for her “Hats of Hope” project that will allow patients undergoing chemotherapy to design their own hats and spread the message that every woman is beautiful.

Katherine Brown from Edmonton, Alberta won for her “CommuniCancer” web site where people newly diagnosed with cancer can connect to others in similar situations and to cancer survivors.

Donna Holmes and Jane Stacey from Kitchener, Ontario won for their project “Your journey through breast cancer” that will allow the Waterloo-Wellington Breast Centre for Women to create a pictorial tool to help women dealing with breast cancer.

Sharon Thurston from St Anicet, Quebec won for “the Betty Riel Fund,” a local volunteer project that raises money to help transport cancer patients to their appointments. Ms. Thurston received her award in person at the Avon Canada head office in Pointe Claire, and thanked Avon personally, “This is a dream come true. Hello Tomorrow funding will keep us going for a full year.”

Johanne Robitaille Manouvrier from Lac Brome Quebec won for her project, “The Inner Path to Healing” to publish her book “Notre pouvoir de guérison” in English, an original and inspiring resource for women facing breast cancer.

The six winners were chosen from a pool of strong contenders by an expert panel of judges, including Ms. Nicola Lewis - Executive Director, Canadian Breast Cancer Research Alliance (CBCRA); Ms. Tina Whitman - Breast Cancer Survivor; Ms. Patricia Robinson – Partner, Goodmans LLP and Secretary, Avon Flame Foundation; Mr. Scott Schlackman - President, Avon Canada; and Ms. Roberta Lacey - Director of Communications, Avon Canada.

Ms. Lewis said that she was touched by the caring and creativity expressed in the applications, “It is so inspiring to see the many creative ways people have of helping each other. I am sure that these initiatives will touch many lives and make a real difference.”
