Teresa Dellar – West Island Palliative Care Residence Bereavement Services
Kirkland, Québec
Teresa Dellar, Executive Director of the West Island Palliative Care Residence has been selected to win a $5,000 Avon Hello Tomorrow Fund award for the Residence’s Bereavement Services. The Hello Tomorrow award will go towards funding the services offered to help reassure terminally ill patients that their families and significant others will be cared for through support groups, the bereavement |
caller program and individual referrals for counseling. Services at the West Island Palliative Care Centre are offered to families for at least one year following their loved one’s death. The West Island Palliative Care Residence is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing dignity, comfort, and compassion as patients and their families reach the end of their life journey together. The organization receives its funding through donations combined with an annual government subsidy, which allows them to continue to provide this essential service to the community. The opening of the West Island Palliative Care Residence in October 2002 marked the realization of a dream and ambitious project undertaken by Teresa Dellar and Russell Williams in the fall of 1998. It is a nine-bed residence where terminally ill patients can spend their final days in comfort and dignity in a warm, home-like environment, close to their family, and in their community.
